Summer of Discovery: Students Explore the Power of Tech, Trades and Design
From Atlanta to New Jersey, Think Big for Kids students gained a jump-start in career exploration through field trips focused on immersive experiences and hands-on learning, thanks to our incredible partner companies.
ATLANTA: Sparking Curiosity Through Tech and the Trades
This summer, Think Big for Kids students from the Warren Boys & Girls Club in Atlanta experienced the future firsthand during an unforgettable visit to the Microsoft Technology Center (MTC) at Atlantic Station. With interactive labs and immersive demos, students explored the world of artificial intelligence and emerging tech. A highlight? Piloting a spaceship in a Star Wars-themed simulation on a massive screen! Thanks to the Microsoft team and Mike Bell for making this experience both educational and out-of-this-world.
Meanwhile, Rogers Electric welcomed students from Think Big and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta to their Alpharetta headquarters for a hands-on day of career exploration. Students learned about the electrical trade from industry pros—wiring outlets with Tyler Benishek, exploring lift training with Scott Croyle, and hearing the inspiring career journey of CEO Lindsey Schoultz. Many thanks to Beau Borst and the entire Rogers team for powering future possibilities!
NEW JERSEY: Behind the Scenes in Design, Innovation and Tech
In New Jersey, students from the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton got the red-carpet treatment at Phillip Jeffries Ltd. During their visit, students toured the showroom, met with the design team, learned about printing and fulfillment, and even created their own custom wallcoverings. It was an eye-opening look into the design industry, and we’re grateful to Phillip Jeffries for another inspiring and welcoming field trip.
Also in Clifton, Crestron Electronics opened their doors—and their “Home of the Future”—to Think Big students. From voice-activated tech to smart screens and home robotics, students explored cutting-edge innovation while engaging with team members who shared stories about building careers from similar communities. A big thank you to the Crestron team for hosting an impactful day, complete with career talks, pizza lunch, and even future mentoring connections!
Rounding out a powerful season, students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Paterson & Passaic spent the day with Verizon, diving into robotics, virtual reality and behind-the-scenes media production. The Verizon team created a rich, hands-on learning experience filled with creative discovery and career insight—topped off with a special lunch, courtesy of the Tax Department. Thank you, Verizon, for investing in our students and showing them the power of technology to transform lives.
