Introducing 2025 Scholarship Recipient Jessica Navarro

It was as a participant at the Boys and Girls Club in Paterson that Jessica Navarro first learned about Think Big for Kids. Having earned the prestigious title of the Clubs’ Youth of the Year, Jessica was recognized for her talent and determination to succeed. She asked her advisor to keep her informed if she learned of any scholarships that might be appropriate for her to apply for – and that is when she was introduced to the availability of the Think Big scholarship!

The Benefits of a Think Big Scholarship and Mentorship
The Think Big Expect More scholarship provides the financial assistance that makes it possible for Jessica to attend Northeastern University, where she will major in policy, economics and philosophy. But as Jessica is quick to point out, the depth of benefits doesn’t stop there.

What Jessica also appreciates is the ongoing support and guidance from the mentorship component that the recipient students can access. In Jessica’s case, she meets with her mentor, Betty Matlaga, once a month to share ideas and gain insights as well as to draw on a range of Betty’s resources.

As CEO of A+ Products and a member of the New Jersey Advisory Board, Betty’s commitment to help Jessica achieve her goals and her ability to clearly articulate challenges and opportunities serves as an inspiration as she encourages Jessica to put forth the effort needed to achieve the best outcomes. From assistance during the academic year to exploring summer programs to conversations about work-life balance, Betty has been a terrific role model for Jessica as she has opened doors and helped her explore a variety of options that will have an impact as she works to ensure a bright future.
