Empowering Dreams: Scholarships Creating Pathways to Success
In a remarkable display of commitment to education and opportunity, this year Think Big for Kids has awarded over $110,000 in scholarships to 37 deserving students from various high schools in the Tampa Bay Area. The scholarships, funded by our generous donors, have been instrumental in empowering these students to pursue their dreams and unlock their full potential.
Among the scholarships awarded, the Law Enforcement Scholarship was established in honor of Undersheriff Paul Alley, Sr. with $9,500 awarded to three exceptional students who displayed a passion for justice and a commitment to serving their community. This recognition not only provides financial assistance but also acknowledges their dedication to making a positive impact in the field of law enforcement. “We created this scholarship in honor of my father, who served for more than 40 years in law enforcement, when he passed in 2021,” said Paul Alley, Jr. “My dad would be so proud to know that his legacy is opening new doors of opportunity for future servant leaders.
The Think Big Expect More Scholarship, a testament to the organization’s belief in dreaming big and surpassing expectations, awarded an impressive sum of $76,000 among 23 students. This investment will undoubtedly play a significant role in supporting these students’ higher education goals and helping them reach for the stars.
Additionally, the SME Technical Trades Scholarship serves as a steppingstone for these bright minds to obtain the education and training they need to begin a career in a technical trade, such as carpentry, masonry, welding, electrical work, and power plant services. They have recognized the academic achievements and potential of four students, awarding them $10,000.
Three students were honored with the inaugural Think Business Scholarship, supported by Sheryl Hunter, receiving a combined $7,500. This scholarship highlights the organization’s dedication to nurturing entrepreneurship and leadership skills, empowering the recipients to excel in the business world and create innovative solutions for tomorrow’s challenges.
Sheryl Hunter, The Entrepreneur’s Attorney, who founded the scholarship stated, “I took great pleasure in creating and awarding the Think Business scholarships to three young people who exemplify the drive and passion it takes to be successful in business as an entrepreneur or as a professional service provider. These students have worked tirelessly to overcome adversity and have shown immense potential. By offering financial support, we aim to assist them in taking the next steps on their journey toward success. It is truly rewarding to play a small part in helping them achieve their dreams.
The True North Passion Scholarship, launched by Think Big’s True North Society, awarded four exceptional students in its first year. Each student was awarded $2,500 for their determination and commitment to staying true to their passions, ensuring they have the resources to navigate their chosen paths successfully. “Awarding scholarships is a core element of Think Big’s unique ‘Three Pillars’ program that supports deserving students from middle school to high school graduation and beyond,” said Amy Alley, executive director of Think Big for Kids. “These opportunities are made available thanks to the generosity of our partner companies and individual donors who care deeply about our mission. Each scholarship recipient has a mentor with Think Big to help them with the transition post-graduation and see them through to the first job in their career path. Our goal is to have our students in the program enter the workforce prepared and passionate about building a successful career.”
