Think Big for Kids × Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Think Big for Kids is proud to partner with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to facilitate an inspiring Player-Student Mentoring Program designed to help teens develop leadership, teamwork and life skills. Over four dynamic sessions, Think Big volunteers and students worked side-by-side with Bucs players, cheerleaders and staff members in high-energy, hands-on activities that connected lessons from the field to success in school and life.

These sessions go beyond the gridiron. They empower students to lead, communicate and plan for their futures. By connecting with professional athletes and team staff, teens see firsthand that success requires more than talent; it takes teamwork, perseverance and smart choices.

Session 1: Training Camp – Communication & Teamwork
The program began with a focus on communication and teamwork, as students formed teams, created chants and tackled collaborative challenges. Activities emphasized trust, listening and problem-solving, helping students understand how clear communication and shared responsibility are key to achieving goals, both on and off the field.

Session 2: Lead Like a Champion – Leadership in Action
Session two shifted to leadership in action, challenging students to adapt under pressure. Through fast-paced activities that required flexibility, grit and encouragement, participants learned that leadership isn’t about being in charge – it’s about lifting others up. Buccaneers players shared personal stories of overcoming setbacks, reinforcing the importance of resilience, perseverance and a team-first mindset.

Session 3: Time Management & Goal Setting
The third session focused on time management and goal setting, giving students practical tools to plan for their futures. Participants explored their time-management styles and learned how to create SMART goals: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Interactive challenges highlighted the importance of prioritization, helping students see how thoughtful planning can turn big dreams into attainable steps.

Session 4: Career Pathways – Exploring the Future
The program concluded with career exploration and pathways. Students enjoyed a “behind the scenes” tour of Buccaneers facilities and participated in speed networking conversations with players and staff, gaining insight into a wide range of careers within and beyond professional sports. The day ended with heartfelt reflections and encouragement from the players, leaving students inspired to think big about their futures.

This mentorship experience went beyond inspiration – it empowered students with skills, confidence and connections that will last a lifetime. By showing what’s possible through preparation, teamwork and belief, Think Big for Kids and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are helping students build a future without limits.
