Catching Up with Zach Whiteman
We are proud to share an update on one of our Think Big kids, Zach Whiteman. Zach overcame many obstacles growing up, including not having the financial resources to pursue his dream of becoming a pediatrician. In high school he struggled to pass his English End of Course exam. With the support of mentors and believing in himself, Zach worked harder and took the SAT to pass with a high enough score to gain the credit he needed to graduate.
Zach participated in Think Big’s Production with a Purpose program and attended multiple Career Showcases and skill-building workshops at his Liberty Boys & Girls Club. In 2020, he became the very first recipient of the Think Big for Kids Perseverance scholarship and was awarded the Think Big SME Technical Trades scholarship to cover the costs of his EMT certification.
Today, Zach has earned his EMT, is paired with his Think Big mentor Scott, and has a job at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital while he continues to pursue his education to become a doctor. He finished his Associate’s Degree and is starting at USF this fall for Biomedical Sciences. We are so proud of you, and are honored to follow along with your success, Zach!
