Big Thoughts

Think Big for Kids is proud to announce our 2020 scholarship recipient, Zachary Whiteman.  Zach was awarded the SME Technical Trade scholarship which will cover the costs of his EMT certification and the Think Big Perseverance Scholarship which will cover his tuition when he transfers to USF in the Fall of 2022.

Zach plans to start working on his Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science at HCC this Fall and transfer to USF for his junior and senior year.   Upon graduation, Zach aspires to attend medical school.   Next summer, Zach plans to get his EMT certification so he can work as an EMT throughout school to gain experience in the medical field before graduation.

Zach has always had a passion for science and helping others.   In high school, he took advanced placement science courses and enjoyed tutoring younger students at the Boys & Girls Club in science.   Zach was the Vice President of the Interact Club at his school and helped to organized service trips to give back to the community.

Our scholarship committee was impressed with Zach’s leadership and perseverance during his high school career.  In addition to his AP course work and volunteering, Zach was a four-year varsity swim team member, played the saxophone in the band for seven years, was a member of the Liberty Boys & Girls Club, and worked a part-time job.  During the Summer of 2019, Zach participated in Think Big’s Production with a Purpose program at WEDU.

Zach will work with a Think Big for Kids mentor throughout his education journey and keep us posted on his progress.  We can’t wait to see all that Zach achieves in his future and are proud to support him on his pathway to and through college.  Congratulations, Zach!
